Never Stop Praying. Need A Praying Aid For 2015?

By Ronke Olutoye

TEXT: 1 TESS 5: 17.
One of the challenge I have had to deal with personally, most times while praying as been that of: What to say, what to pray for, who to pray for. Then I came across this praying aid. It gives a perfect answer to the question of who to pray for, what to pray for and why you should pray for what you pray for.

The praying aid, illustrated with the five fingers of our hand includes:

THE THUMB:  It is the closest finger to us. Hence it reminds us to pray for those that are close to us. These includes; our families, our friends, relatives e.t.c. 1 THESS 1:2 ‘We always remember you when we pray and we thank God for all of you’.

THE INDEX FINGER: This finger is next to the thumb. It is used for pointing. Hence, it reminds us to pray for those that are pointing us in the right direction in life such as our Pastors, Mentors, Teachers e.t.c. Matt 26:38 ‘Jesus said to Peter and the sons of Zebedee, ‘My heart is so heavy with grief, I feel as if I am dying. Wait here and stay awake with me (pray with me)’.  Most of the people that point us in the right direction in life have their own personal challenges. Hence, let us form the habit of praying for them.

THE MIDDLE FINGER: It is the tallest finger. It reminds us to pray for those in Leadership positions in the country, including the Church. Ps 112:6 ‘pray for peace in Jerusalem (Nigeria), May those who love you find peace’. We should form a habit of praying for the President, every government official, Church and even pray about the news as whatever affects our country indirectly or directly affects us. Ps 51:18 ‘ in your good pleasure make Zion ( The Church) prosper, build up the walls of Jerusalem (Nigeria)’.

THE RING FINGER: it is the weakest finger. It reminds us to pray for all the sick people, the elderly, mentally retarded, less privilege like the orphans and so on. James 5:14 ‘is any one sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord’.

The LAST FINGER: it is the smallest finger. It reminds us to pray for ourselves. Philip 4:6 ‘Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have’. We should form the habit of taking all our challenge to God because God is bigger than our biggest challenge. James 5: 13 ‘are you having troubles? You should pray. Are you happy? You should sing’.

Just as we can not do without our fingers and hands on a daily basis, so also we can not do without prayer on a daily basis.

Daddy God, I thank you for adding to my knowledge about prayer today,. I ask that you help me to put all that I now know into practice and to touch lives through my prayers. In Jesus name.
