Miracles abound on earth, especially in the body of Christ, and it is expected since we serve a living God. However, when it comes to death, people find it rather hard to believe. Our God is not limited by death and this is shown in the lives of some people in the Bible. They are:
1. The son of the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:17-24)
Elijah the prophet raised the this young man from the dead. He was staying in an upper room in the widow’s house when there was drought in the land. While he was there, the widow’s son took ill and died.
2. The son of the woman of Shunem – (2 Kings 4:17-36)
The lad complained of a headache while on the farm with his father, shortly after he died. His mother went looking for Elisha and God raised the boy from the dead after Elisha prayed.
3. The man who was thrown into Elisha’s sepulchre (2 Kings 13:21)
During this man’s burial procession, the people who were present spied a band of men who they believed could cause them harm since Israel was in distress at the moment, so they threw the body of the man into Elisha’s tomb, but he rose on touching the dead prophet’s body.
4. The son of the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11-15)
Jesus raised this young man when he saw his grieving mother as his body was being carried near the gate of the city.
5. Jairus’ daughter (Luke 8:41-42, 49-55)
Jairus was one of the rulers of the synagogue and his only daughter was dying when he asked Jesus to come heal her. However, before Jesus got there, there were reports that the girl was dead. Jesus told him not to worry and eventually raised the dead girl.
6. Lazarus (John 11:1-4, 11-17, 41-44)
Lazarus was one of Jesus’ dear friends when he was on earth. He was sick and Jesus was called for, but once again, before Jesus got there, he was dead. In fact, he had been dead for four days by the time Jesus arrived, yet Jesus raised him from the dead as well.
7. Dorcas (Acts 9:36-41)
Dorcas was a Christian who had done a lot of good for those around her but she fell ill and died. Apostle Peter was in Joppa at the time and that was where she lived. He was invited to come pray for her and he did, after which he raised her from the dead.
8. Eutychus (Acts 20:9-12)
Eutychus was a young Christian who fell asleep while listening to Paul preaching the word. Unfortunately, he was seated on the window on the third loft so he fell and died. Paul went down and embraced the young man and asked the people not to worry for there was still life in Him. Moments later, Eutychus was brought up alive.
9. Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:3-4,14)
The Son of God was crucified, but he rose on the third day, and now He lives forever at the right hand of the Father. By his death, we live and because He rose again, we are justified; our salvation is complete and we are assured of resurrection as well. Jesus has defeated death forever.
