Why You Need To Take Your Music Playlist Serious

Naija Christians

Music is undoubtedly one of the most powerful things in the world today. It has a way of reaching one’s body, soul and spirit. It is a means of expressing one’s thoughts, feelings and opinions. It is a valid means of communication that man has come to embrace.

As Christians, music is also a part of our faith. The Bible teaches us in Ephesians 5:19 – ‘Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.’ Even Jesus and His disciples sang a hymn together before His crucifixion (Matthew 26:30).

However, there comes the question of if music should be limited to gospel alone for us as believers. Many arguments have gone forth about this issue but here’s my 2 cents on it. As Christians, we should be mindful of what we let into our subconscious because in the long run, they will influence what we give out.

I believe you can have a versatile playlist, but it would be wise to ensure that whatever is there is good enough for the mind whose renewal will lead to a transformation of your life. Before downloading a song or getting it from a friend, you could check the lyrics first. Thanks to the internet, that is very possible these days.

That way, you can sure that whatever you’re letting into your mind is good for it. Finally, one guiding verse of the Bible is Philippians 4:8:

‘Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’
