Today, she is the sister that raises the hopes of the congregation as she lifts up her holy hands in praise; Tomorrow, the holy hands are nowhere to be found; she’s the one pleasing her herself in the wrong she does; her will has overridden that of God’s.; As today she is spirit-led and tomorrow, she’s walking in the flesh big time as if Christ never died… The Two-Faced Christian Life.
It is true that the moment we gave our lives to Christ, old things have passed away; our spirit becomes born again – transformed into his likeness. But our mind, still contains the old jargons it used to harbour. That’s one of the reasons the Bible instructed that we renew it, regularly. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD.”
The condition of our hearts is what God is in business with. Our minds wants to have us do the things God is not happy with. Your will, the flesh is always in contrary to God’s will; it desires are not of God. “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.-Galatians 5 : 17”
The battlefield of the mind, that’s what it is. Maybe it would have been easier if God had said he will renew our minds for us; that the moment we accept Christ, our minds become transformed also… but mind renewal is a voluntary exercise, and if we don’t engage in the exercise regularly, fatigue will set in again.
But God so loves us for reasons we don’t know. His grace hovers the earth, pardoning our every shortcomings. It is a lucky specie! We think we are at “Liberty” to live that kind of Life that pleases us; God sees the heart and he knows the genuine ones.
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.-Galatians 5 : 16.
